From my email bin…

I delete it. I used to reply to it, and sometimes if it’s not hate mail, but just someone being phenomenally stupid, I might still reply. But lately I’ve taken to turfing the email as soon as I catch on that it’s hate, and tossing the sender onto my blacklist.

Basically I’ve never found any use in answering hate mail. Once someone’s at that level of stupid, there’s no way to talk them out without fighting and no one wins those fights.

Hater’s gonna hate.

At one point someone told me I looked like kd lang. Wishful thinking (I think she was hitting on me). I don’t look like any celebrity I’ve ever seen, though!

My mom bought it for me in October of 2010, at Barneys New York. She was visiting me and we were talking about how I’ve started to outgrow the baseball cap shtick, and I needed something new. Mom got a derby style hat while we were there, and I’ve worn it ever since.

I’m presuming you mean online (in the physical world, you have to be asleep at the switch to think I’m a man… Unless it’s mid-winter.)

I never take offense at people mistaking me for a man online. My avatar is ambiguous, my handle is gender neutral, and I have a girlfriend. Thus the heteronormative nature of the world means you’re GONNA think I’m a man. I also ‘write male’ (though I’m still not really sure what that means).

What I object to is people being told ‘No, Ipstenu’s a woman.’ and insisting that’s wrong. Trust me. I am a real woman on the internet. See also how I feel about people mangling my name. First couple times gets a free pass. After that, I may start teasing the shit out of you.

I don’t think I had ‘a’ best subject. I did well in all my classes, but it was disparate. Like I’d do really well in one part of English but not the other, ditto science etc.

Have you ever adopted a pet?

Both of my cats are adopted. All my dogs have been. All my cats have been (if you count ‘born in my backyard, Dad, can I keep them?’ as adopted). We’ve never ‘bought’ an animal. Except Rudy the Border Collie. We did pay for him, but he was a failed farm dog that needed a good home. In the end, he went to a family with a huge farm and no animals and lived very happily.
